About Clarochel
I am Dirk Tijssen, proud owner of Clarochel German Shepherd dogs. Clarochel started as a Beagle kennel in 2014, owned by my father, Johan Tijssen. When I was younger we always had animals, everything from dairy cows to Budgies, and, obviously dogs. I always loved dogs, and I took a great interest in the breeding and training of dogs when my father started Clarochel.
2 years later we decided to also get a few German Shepherds, and needless to say, they stuck. I fell in love with this breed from the very first moment, and has since greatly enjoyed training, breeding and showing this magnificent breed.
By 2018 my father decided to discontinue breeding with the dogs. By then I was so deeply involved in every aspect of the dogs, I could never just stop. Hence I became proud owner of all the German Shepherds under the Clarochel name. On the Beagle side of the kennel, I however decided to completely discontinue the old, local bloodlines and completely stopped breeding Beagles under the Clarochel name. My love for Beagles was rooted way too deep though, and after careful research and planning, I imported two Beagles and started the Ekara Affix, which still continues to this day.
Here at Clarochel I am committed to breeding well balanced, powerful, yet friendly, good looking and generally healthy family protection dogs. My occasional litter is always a well-researched, planned mating, and my puppies are raised and developed into confident young dogs. Obviously all my babies are registered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and tattooed. Here, quality always goes before quantity.
My puppies are bred to the standard of the German Shepherd Dog Federation of South Africa, entailing not only that all my breeding dogs have passed with a clear hip score, but also that they have all obtained the necessary show and working qualifications. Read more HERE.
I am a proud member of The Cradle GSD club. I train my dogs in various disciplines, including Protection work, obedience and tracking.
Everything that I have accomplished, could not have been done without certain mentors. A lot of people have guided and helped me over the years, to many to mention them all. Know that I appreciate every word of advice I get! A few people deserve special mention though - Bruce and Michaela Schroeder (vom Pfalzer Wald GSD's) as well as Ferdi Myburgh and Christine Kneidinger (vom Wohlstein GSD's) has all influenced my road in very different, yet so significant ways. Thank you!!!
With all the awesome backing I have, I can't help but be super excited about the road forward!
